I want to volunteer when I'm in Texas

Anyone have any suggestions as to how I may do that? I'm calling the Red Crosses in San Antonio, Houston and Austin. Dallas, too. I'll have a car.

Opportunities here:

The Oakland Red Cross wants volunteers to answer the phone and take donations. They have a national phone bank in Oakland. They are offering training sessions at 10am, 2pm and 6pm every day, then they'll put you right on the phones. Call 510-595-4472 to get in one of those sessions.

So that's what I'm doing this weekend.

Change in plans

OK, I'm going to Houston Monday through Wednesday, at least. Maybe Thursday and Friday, too.

I feel like I'll be lonely there, but maybe I'll bring some good books with me.

I'm trying to talk my mom into offering my and my brother's old rooms, which are both set up for guests. We also have a couchbed in the living room. That house could host six, easily. She said she's waiting to see if people will be bussed to Stillwater. They're already being sent to Dallas and OKC.

If you know a good bar/restaurant/district in Houston, let me know. I'll probably be too tired to go, but it would be good to know.

Texans/Oklahomans/Southerners (_the_antihero?), let me know if you want to join me at the Astrodome. I might split my hotel room with you.
